J&S Drilling have successfully completed another Bowen Basin Exploration Drilling Coal Mine campaign. The series of boreholes to be drilled was to a depth of up to 150m, so to satisfy the scope of works. For the purpose of identifying coal seams and test the core samples for acidity. Most importantly J&S Drilling achieved great results throughout all aspects of the project. Above all delivering the highest standard of production and subsequently achieving core recovery targets. Meanwhile delivering on sustainable safety standards.
Firstly, a Fraste FS400 drill rig was selected to deliver the project to achieve the EOFY deadline and in a safe manner. Secondly, the J&S drilling team that was chosen for the project has a great reputation for presentation, safety, production, and minimal down-time across numerous coal mine sites and greater QLD.
Utilsing the HQ3 core methodology the boreholes were drilled from the surface to target depth. The rig and crew drilled just under 1000m of HQ core in 29 working days. Which, averaged out to be 33m of core per day including site moves, standby time and safety interactions. Whilst averaging 33m of core per day, J&S drilling were able to recover upwards of 98% of across the near 1000m of drilling. This ensured minimal uncertainty of what material was being drilled when the core was being logged by the sub-contracted supervising geologist. As a result the principal client is provided with extremely accurate reports from the client.

J&S Drilling equipment is compliant to the mining companies’ standard. Importantly, providing clients with confidence in our safe work practices. This included the use of the drill rigs automated rod handling system which alleviates any need for manual handling drill rods. Regular safety interactions where conducted by the mining companies site supervisors with positive feedback received at each occasion.
