Exploration Drilling Programs
J&S Drilling has recently completed a series of exploration drilling programs for a longstanding client operating in West QLD, a region recognised for its significant mineral resources. The works were executed across two active mining operations, each requiring a tailored approach to achieve high-quality geological and geotechnical outcomes, while maintaining strict compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
Scope of Works
The programs comprised a combination of Reverse Circulation (RC) and diamond core drilling, designed to deliver reliable subsurface data and representative geological samples.
The completed works included:
- 12 RC boreholes drilled to depths of up to 150 metres, targeting mineralised zones and structural features.
- 2 HQ diamond core holes advanced to depths of up to 125 metres to obtain continuous core for detailed geological logging, structural interpretation, and metallurgical assessment.
This dual-method approach enabled the client to collect critical geological data, confirm lithological boundaries, validate mineralisation models, and refine planning for future mining phases. The drilling program contributed essential information to support resource definition, mine life planning, and operational feasibility assessments.
Equipment & Operational Setup
To deliver the program safely and efficiently, J&S Drilling mobilised a Fraste FS300 drill rig, a versatile and high-performance platform suited to both RC and diamond drilling requirements. The rig was supported by:
- DST cyclone with cone splitter for accurate and uncontaminated RC sample separation
- 8×4 water cart for operational drilling water and to maintain optimal drilling conditions
- 4×4 support vehicle for crew transport, tooling, and field logistics
- 350/1070 cfm high-capacity air compressor to ensure consistent air supply for RC operations
- Telehandler for safe handling of rods, consumables, and ancillary equipment
This equipment configuration ensured reliable performance across varying ground conditions while maintaining high levels of productivity and sample quality.
Safety, Quality & Performance
J&S Drilling’s field crew worked in accordance with company ISO-aligned safety and quality management systems, implementing daily pre-starts, task-based risk assessments, and environmental controls. The team achieved:
- Zero recordable safety incidents
- Consistent sample recovery across all RC and HQ holes
- Strong drilling productivity despite remote conditions and variable ground formations, the client highlighted the quality of the geological samples, reliable recovery rates, and the professionalism of the field crew throughout the entire program.
Outcome
The successful execution of the drilling programs provided the client with critical geological and structural data required to refine exploration models and guide future development decisions. The project further demonstrates J&S Drilling’s capability in delivering complex exploration drilling services across regional and remote mining environments.
In conclusion, the completion of these programs reinforces J&S Drilling’s position as a leading and dependable contractor in the exploration drilling sector, recognised for our technical expertise, operational efficiency, and strong safety culture.
